The Causes Of Back Pain - How It Can Adversely Affect You

By James Steele

There are so many ways that an individual can get back pain. Our back has 20 separate vertebrae, all of which are susceptible to injury or damage which can cause us discomfort. You can actually have pain across your entire back spanning from the top to the bottom. You may be suffering from back pain. If so, here are a few of the leading causes that you should know about so you can do something about it.

Although we may wonder where the back pain comes from, it's usually not that hard to figure out. Anyone that did a lot of moving prior to their back pain developing can probably guess this is what caused it. But if you really don't know why your back is hurting, it may be necessary to get professional help. By doing a few tests, your doctor should be able to help you narrow down why your back is aching. This may include X-rays or CT scans, which uses a series of X-rays taken at multiple angles. An MRI scan is also a useful tool for diagnosing a problem and this can pinpoint exactly where the problem is located.

Painful fitting shoes can cause you to change your posture in a way that will inevitably cause you to suffer from back pain. Women that wear high heeled shoes are most likely going to suffer from back issues because the shoes do not offer adequate support. Another type of footwear that will cause comparable issues is cowboy boots. You will be putting several parts of your body at risk for strain or injury if you opt for inappropriate footwear. Posture and walking in a balanced way is important for the health of your back, and this requires the right footwear.

An old, broken down mattress won't support your back and is a prime cause of lower back pain. If your mattress is no longer able to support your back properly, your spine gets out of alignment and you can end up with lower back pain. There is no "one perfect mattress" that will work for everyone but, one thing is for sure, an old, misshapen, lumpy mattress isn't anyone's solution! One easy solution to getting rid of your back pain is to buy a new mattress. Once you've figured out your mattress, check to see if you are sleeping with too many pillows. This, also, can stress your back. Your neck and head will not be properly aligned with your back when you raise it up with an abundance of pillows. This, as you might have surmised by now, can lead to back pain.

On a more serious note, if you develop kidney problems you may experience back pain. This condition is not to be taken lightly. Due to the fact that your kidneys are near your lower back, if you develop a kidney infection, kidney stones, or other kidney problems, you may suffer from low back pain. The pains in your lower back will, normally, also extend around to your lower abdomen and you may have pain upon urination as well. Don't waste any time making an appointment with your doctor if you are experiencing any of these symptoms. Your medical provider can do an ultrasound test and/or a urinalysis to see if you are, indeed, afflicted with a kidney disorder. Don't jump to the conclusion that, if you have lower back pain, it is caused by a kidney condition. However, if you have even the tiniest suspicion that you might have a kidney infection or other kidney problems, don't hesitate to have it checked out. If you suffer from back pain, you know how devastating it can be. Just getting out of bed in the morning without excessive pain can be a problem. If you can discover why you suffer from back pain, you can set a plan in place to keep the pain from returning in the future. If you have a disease or illness that is contributing to your back pain, you must first get it taken care of and as under control as possible. Otherwise, it's mainly a matTer of paying attention to any factors in your life that might be putting a strain on your back.
