The sweater was closely fitted so that it was more flattering. They were also shorter than the preceding style so that the bottom of the sweater did not overlap the skirt.
Instead of saddle shoes, the women started to wear sneakers in the 1970's and their costumes were made from cotton or lighter fabric that allowed for easier movement. The skirts were made a bit shorter in a pleated fashion. The sweater changed quite dramatically in this decade as they were streamlined and closer fitting which was more flattering as it tapered to the body.
The skirt is a customized skirt which is made from the same material as the top. IT can have various styles. Many skirts are made with pleats or in a simple A-Line fashion which has no pleats.
