Practice Safe Martial Arts Dressed In A Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Gi

By Jazzi George

People who practice Bijj wear a special type of uniform during their training, which is generically called The Bijj Kimono, or Brazilian JiuJitsuGi. The color of these uniforms is usually blue or white, but they can also be black sometimes. The main upside of these uniforms is that it is very difficult to tear them down even during the roughest training sessions.

Also, if you intend to purchase such a uniform, you should select one that is made exclusively of cotton. If you find a uniform which is made from a different material, you should keep looking. In general, the Gi uniforms are either light, or heavy, but in most cases it is challenging to find the difference between these two terms because the products that are found is stores are generically named Platinum, or Pearl. Nonetheless, when you go shopping for Gi uniforms, you should pay attention at the name, because usually the light, smooth ones are titled Single Weave, or Pearl Weave, in contrast with the heavy ones that are known as Double Weave, or Gold Weave.

However, the weight of the kimono does not make any difference during the training, and it is just an insignificant characteristic. What is more, the professionals claim that the heavier kimonos are the best option for the competitions, whereas the lighter ones are more suitable for the personal trainings, and you might want to consider this fact when you make your choice. Once you are 100% sure that you want to become a Bijj professional, you must purchase a fine JiuJitsuGi. These uniforms are different from the ones used in karate, being more similar to those used in Judo. Gis are usually ultra-durable because this sport usually implies submissions and throws, so the uniform must be able to deal with impressive amounts of force. Gis usually present flawless, durable stitches that enable them to remain intact even after the harshest trainings.

For this reason the Gis have to be incredibly resistant, extremely qualitative, and to feature as many stitches as possible. Nevertheless, if you are just learning a couple of self-defense techniques, you must have a more realistic approach of the matter. Then, you could just as well train a pair of trousers and a T-shirt because it is very unlikely for you to be attacked while wearing a fancy Bijj uniform. Also, there are professionals who claim that if you train only while wearing a Gi can be unsafe, mainly on long periods of time, because you will focus more on your uniform, using it as shield, and you will put less emphasis on the actual techniques. You must have a relaxed approach of the matter, and find equilibrium, if possible. People who are always wearing a Gi during the training sessions may become weaker in time, as they will be constantly relying on the defensive power of their uniform.

On the other hand, not wearing a gi is also a bad decision because you won't develop the ability of using defense techniques that are based on the material. All in all, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Gi are great uniforms for people who want to practice Bijj, as they provide great resistance to the force applied on them during trainings. No matter if you want to become a Bijj professional, or you are just doing it for pleasure, you must seriously consider purchasing a Gi.
