Gifts & Gear For The Mixed Martial Artist In Your Life

By Rod Bourgoine

The holiday gift giving season soon will be upon on us and once again we have to rack our brains to find the perfect gifts for everyone on our lists. If you have an MMA fan on your list then you are in luck. There are many great gift ideas for someone who loves the sport of MMA, and here are just a few ideas.

Obviously, if your loved one is someone who already works out at a MMA gym or perhaps belongs to a boxing gym, boxing club or takes Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes, then buying special gear is always a great idea. You could get anything from fight shorts and a rash guard to gloves or boxing shoes or other equipment they might need. Some companies also offer gift cards so your recipient can select exactly what they want and need.

There are also lots of great MMA-related books that might make a fun gift. You could check out titles by Anderson Silva, BJ Penn, Georges St.-Pierre and Randy Couture. Some books are instructional guides and others motivational or autobiographical. Bruce Lee also wrote several books, which can be very motivational. There are also quite a few good MMA periodicals that would make a good gift. Magazines such as Ultimate MMA Magazine or Fight Magazine are just a few that might make your gift recipient happy.

There are obviously quite a few great movies about boxing, but there are also some good ones specifically about MMA or specific types of martial arts. "Warrior" is absolutely one of the best movies made about MMA and any fan is sure to love this movie. "Fight Club" is another option, as is "Bloodsport." If your loved one is a Jiu-Jitsu fan, consider purchasing "Redbelt." Bruce Lee wasn't an MMA fighter, but he is considered the father of the sport as he advocated the use of multiple styles of fighting. There are some great options if you friend or spouse is a Bruce Lee fan. His most popular movies were "Enter the Dragon" and "Fist of Fury," but you could also buy a boxed set of "The Green Hornet."

For children who are MMA fans, you could purchase a cool UFC action figure. There is a series produced by UFC that includes fighters such as Georges St.-Pierre, Kenny Florian, Lyoto Machida and many more top fighters. Another option would be to purchase a wall decal featuring a favorite UFC fighter. There are huge, life-size decals of everyone from Anderson Silva to BJ Penn to Jon Jones and many more.

Tickets to a fight are another good gift idea. UFC, King of the Cage and Bellator host fights throughout the year at many venues around the United States. If you can't score a ticket to one of these events, there are many smaller local fight organizations that are fun to attend where you can watch some great up-and-coming fighters duel in the cage. If your friend or spouse is a fan of a particular type of marital art, such as Judo or Muay Thai, consider purchasing a ticket to an event specific to that art. Virtually every mid-size to large city offers a variety of fight event options for you to consider.
