The Curriculum Of Self Defense Classes Dallas

By Larry Patterson

Self defense is arguably one of the most important things that one has to learn because mugging or rape cases are extremely common. While learning how to fight will not completely guarantee the safety of a person, it increases the chances of not getting killed, beaten up, or raped. So for those who are curious, here are a few things that one will learn from self defense classes Dallas.

When one would learn how to fend him or herself on the streets, there are three essential types of attacks that one has to take note of. These are the unarmed attacks, the ground attacks, and the weapon attacks. Of course, the easiest to defend against would be the hand to hand attacks which would include punches, kicks, locks, grapples, throwdowns, and basically anything unarmed.

When one would get attacked on the street by a drunk person or a person on drugs, the attacker would usually just charge forward with a flurry of punches, slaps, and pretty much anything to hit the defender. As the defender, one has to learn how to parry these attacks and either make the attacker trip down or get the attacker in a lock. One will most likely learn how to use the boxing guard for defending and rush in for a counter.

Now, a more experienced mugger would most likely not rely on just random punches and kicks alone. Rather, they would most likely use street thug techniques such as locking, punches, kicking, and throwdowns. For this purpose, the students of these lessons have to know how to defend against locks and submissions through counters against submission attacks.

There will be times when the attacker would force the defender to the ground which is what usually happens during rape cases. When this happens, one has to learn basic jiu jitsu moves to help him or her keep the assailant off and neutralize the assailant. Jiu jitsu practitioners are used to fighting on their backs so this art is the best for men and women to avoid rape situations.

Lastly, there are weapon attacks such as knife attacks or baton attacks. Now, these kinds of attacks are more dangerous because weapons can actually kill people. That is why students will be taught how to deflect, parry, and take damage from weapons without getting killed in the process.

Now, a lot of students would ask about defending about guns. Yes, one can defend against guns through gun disarming if one is in the correct range. This usually involves short grappling moves to push the gun at another direction away from the assailant. This is usually taught to police but is rather risky to do.

These are some of the things that one will learn if he or she would take up these classes. Do take note that there is no guarantee of safety even if one learns these moves. However, as mentioned above, will decrease the chances of getting killed.
